I am a “lunch lady” with the Montgomery County Public School system in Rockville. I work in an elementary school at the moment, but for 7 years I worked in a high school, where, after begging for several years, I was able to get the fresh ingredients necessary to stage my own “build your own” burrito bar. I also had a full salad bar, fresh sauteed vegetarian jasmine rice daily, and fresh quesadillas – chicken, and vegetarian – daily. Of course, this was much less interesting for the bureaucrats, because they don’t get government reimbursements from a la carte sales.
Now I have my own little company, but my family’s health benefits still come from the school system, so I still work 4 hrs a day.
How do you propose to change the system of reimbursements, policies, etc? That sounds like 100 years of work.
