Most family farms are struggling. Many here in NYS and elsewhere have B&Bs on their land to help subsidize their income.
BUT the biggest issue with high fructose corn syrup is that it is metabolized in the liver and can be readily made into fat AKA Triglycerides (and elevate TG levels in the blood) and deposit in the liver (fatty liver). I am seeing more and more pt. with fatty livers.

The LDP was devised to insure family farms survived hard times, and it may still be appropriate for true family farms. With a "sprawling family farm empire" covering 23 counties and 6 states, as in the case of Walker Place, the definition of family farm gets murky. These "farmers" are doing injustice to their fellow Americans by accepting subsidies that were obviously not intended for them, while simultaneously raping the once fertile land with overuse of petrochemical fertilizers and pesticides that are necessary to produce unnatural yields.
It is the greed of these giant agribusinesses that has changed the landscape of our farming communities, created monocultures that have altered our food supply, and added to our dependence on oil. It's time for a change in government policy so that true farmers can thrive.
