Bravo. Your passion for this subject comes through clearly in your post and I concur 100%.

I first became aware of horrible school nutrition about 1 year ago when I read 'Fast Food Nation'. I was shocked that I had been so ignorant for so long. My wife and I began sending our kids to school with packaged lunches after that point, though still not all the time.

The other point that you raise, but gloss over somewhat, regarding the short period of time our kids get to eat their lunches, is also insane.

My 3rd grader typically gets about 5 minutes to shovel his food down by the time he gets through the line and to a table. This alone creates completely unhealthy eating habits, let alone the stuff they are consuming.

Parents across the country need to step up and say enough is enough. The vast majority of parents do care about their kids health they just don't understand how bad the school situation is or what to do about it. Keep spreading the word.

I like your position so much that I have added your blog as the first to my blogroll on my new blog at www.feedingdreams.com
