Cheeers to the pediatrician for pointing out the facts--he is precisely right--people who understand science are less likely to find this blog credible if diatribes such as this are allowed to be posted without any fact-checking. As a nurse, I know that autism is a tragedy for any family affected, and the medical community would love to find the cause. Vaccines have proven to be the most important medical advance in history, and are not the cause of autism. Thank you!

Please. Don't publish tracts from people willing to play so very fast and loose with the facts. It is disturbing to find that there is a known neurotoxin in that most common of cheap sweeteners, HFCS. It is appalling to think that our government may be complicit in covering up evidence for this risk. But how can I take this presentation at face value when the author moves on to imply a dark conspiracy "to save the vaccine companies' bottom line" with regards to mercury in vaccines.

I am a pediatrician. My experience of this controversy is quite different. I remember when, in 1999, the word came out to us that we should stop giving the hep B vaccine to newborns. I remember being told that with the increasing numbers of vaccines babies were getting, it had been pointed out that the cumulative load of mercury from preservatives may be rising to significant levels, and just to be on the safe side, let's stop vaccinating the newborns.

Later, in 2000, the decision was made to stop using all multidose vials for the routine immunizations. No more mercury in any of the routine baby/child vaccines. (Flu vaccine continued to be offered in multidose vials, although most doses switched over to single use, mercury free syringes.) That was eight years ago. The autism rate has not dropped, even though diagnosis of autism tends to occur at less than five years of age.

ChefAnn, if you use your blog for distributing this kind of fact-lite sermonizing, I'm less likely to check in, even though I like what you have to say about food and particularly feeding our children.
